2023 has been a tumultuous year. But isn’t every year?

I was able to get a lot of articles written, for you, my loyal readers. But not as many as I would like. I slowed down near the end of the year, for personal reasons that I won’t bore you with.

But, as the year draws to a close, I thought I’d take a look back at all the photography articles I wrote in 2023 and highlight my five best.

These Are Not the Most Popular Stories

These are not necessarily my most popular or well-read stories.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned recently, it’s that a well-written and informative article isn’t enough to get you a lot of readers.

What is? Good question — I’ll let you know if I find out.

A well-written and informative article used to be enough. But, with algorithms changing, my readership took a nosedive this year.

Although some of these stories did well, others didn’t get traction. In any case, I chose these five photography articles simply because, in my opinion, they’re the ones that exhibit my best writing.

So, without further ado, here they are, in no particular order…

“How to Think Fast When Doing Travel Photography”

I do most of my photography while traveling. And I don’t mean photo excursions or workshops, I mean personal vacations. So, I’m not there just to get good shots — there’s not always time for that. But I still want those good shots.

So, this article contains a few tips for striking that balance between a personal outing and a photo op.
